Pawal Althamer's 'Realtime Movie', Borough Market, 11:30 a.m., Friday 30th November 2007.
I'm off work that day but unfortunately therefore will be elsewhere. I don't really know quite what it is (is it essentially just a play?), but it's probably worth a look since it's free. |

Grindhouse double bills - they cannot present them quite as intended (not sure why), but it's the next best thing.

They have started presenting them as intended now. I cannot really be bothered to watch the films again, but I might go and see the trailers. |

That's a bit tricky as only two of them are at the start, the rest are between the two films so you'd have to time it fairly carefully if you wanted to see them. I went sat through Death Proof again, not really sure why because I really hated it the first time. The second time confirmed my hatred. What was interesting though was Planet Terror was fantastic, and actually representative of Grindhouse cinema, something it seemed Tarantino missed completely in comparison.

I thought exactly the opposite (not that I've seen any Grindhouse cinema ever). Was Rodriguez ironically using top notch special effects to remove one of his characters' legs (the likes of which most Grindhouse studios surely couldn't afford) or am I missing something? |

That's perfectly true, but he was representing something that Grindhouse cinema would have wanted to do, and probably managed on limited make-up effects; the sheer ludricrousness of attaching a machine gun to a bitten-off leg stump. The fact he did have the resources to brilliant special effects and a high budget didn't detract from the fact that he was emulating the best elements of cheap explotation cinema - it just looked and sounded better because it is a new film, not made in the 50s or the 70s. The script was intentionally bad (unlike Tarantino's - just plain bad), the acting was hilarious (unlike QT's - which was turgid and often embarrassing, apart from Rose McGowan and the star turn from Kurt Russell) and the concept wonderfully bonkers, complete with non-sensical plot and stock characters. It felt like Tarantino just wanted to make a car movie (blah blah blah Vanishing Point blah blah) with girls and shoehorned the grindhouse concept onto it. Death Proof evoked nothing of cheap, fun cinema to me. Just self-indulgent bullshit. |

It didn't occur to me that any were at the start, so thanks for the info. It wouldn't be too hard to time it right, though. Still, I haven't as yet. |

For all you horror fans. Looks like there's some good stuff on.
Love this excerpt from the Mum & Dad blurb: And Lena is their latest victim to find out that a family who sexually plays together also slays together.
Creepy
Or this from Bad Biology: Driven by biological excess a woman with seven clitorises, and a habit of giving birth to mutant babies two hours after sex, meets a man who has been feeding his penis with growth steroids. The hilarious result is a tour-de-force of surreal bad taste, extended orgasms, pussy-cam shots, naked models wearing vagina masks, 24-inch member points-of-view, endearingly bizarre special effects and feminist issue raising.
Now there's a must-see film. |

I doubt this is particular to London or Cineworlds, but that's where I saw it listed:
There are double bills of Che One and Two on New Year's Day. I had been considering waiting till they were at the P.C.C. so that I could see them together. |
