Strong until the end.
Finally, out of juice.
Some observations reported about classic TV fitness guru Jack, and juice machine adman of the 90s and on:
"When he turned 43 in 1957, he performed more than 1,000 push-ups in 23 minutes on the 'You Asked For It' television show. At 60, he swam from Alcatraz Island to Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco handcuffed, shackled and towing a boat. Ten years later, he performed a similar feat in Long Beach harbor."
"'The only way you can hurt the body is not use it,' LaLanne said. 'Inactivity is the killer and, remember, it's never too late.'"
Rest in peace, big guy.

Gone away, hasn't he?
My housemate and I used to find his infomercial cult viewing. (This was a few years ago in the early days of freeview; before then most people just had the normal channels, which did not show such things.) It featured a woman saying the line "The vitamins just go away, don't they?" (I guess if you don't use a Jack LaLanne power juicer, though I'm not sure why) -- by presenting it as a question, presumably they felt no obligation for the answer to be yes. His surname seemed to be pronounced as though there were only one N which was entertaining in combination with his wife's name.
Elaine LaLanne alone. |
