OK, I'll try another way to assess a movie:-

Spiderman 3 was boring as hell, a waste of $7, an insult to Spiderman, and was skin-deep puerile garbage aimed at morons.

That's the spirit.
I think I prefer my normal way of commenting on movies.

I've seen a few movies that many (most?) liked that I didn't enjoy. But they certainly aren't the "WORST FILMS EVER".

Nope. You gonna lend my your copy? Or can't you bear to part with it, even for a few days?

I hope you don't let thefoxcub watch it.

Thefoxcub emailed me and asked me to buy Swiss Gang Bang 2, 3, & 4 as you're too tight fisted . I'll send them over when they arrive. Can't wait.

I wrote thefoxcub offering him my copy of Baby Pinsky, but he wrote back that he didn't want his dad getting any ideas.

I expect the fact that he looks like Brad Pitt may have something to do with it.

I just watched Prizzi'z Honor for the first tim (22 years on!). This film was nominated for a rack of Oscars - Anjelica Huston won for best supporting actress.

I didn't hate this film by any means - but I did wonder a little bit what the fuss was all about. Anjelica Huston was certainly convincing in the role - but after all this time I didn't feel as if the film was Oscar special. (Also, I found Nicholson quite unattractive in his role). Why did it make such an impression at the time?

Titanic
Pearl Harbor
Being There
Fantastic Four

More when I think of them.

Having had a think, here's an expanded list, with explanations, of movies that I think should be put out of their misery. All links are to fwfr pages.

Titanic: How did this movie win as many awards as it did? I sat down to watch, and lasted about 30 minutes before giving up in disgust. Bad script, worse acting, plus the thought of Celine Dion singing at me at the end of the movie combined to put me off. Even the possibility of seeing Kate Winslets naked chest has failed to get me to watch this again.

Pearl Harbor: As above, but without Kate Winslets naked chest (and no Celine Dion) as an incentive.

Moulin Rouge!: Another movie where I failed to last the distance. A heap of unrelentingly pretentious drivel.

Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy: Hollywood let themselves down embarrassingly with the adaptation of this. This movie could have been so much better, but the screenwriters did their thing and ruined it. I love the books and the original TV series. The movie is just cack. Mrs C fell asleep, I watched it all, but now I look on it as a waste of 109 minutes of my life. Douglas Adams, God rest his soul, is probably still rotating rapidly in his grave at the thought of this.

Being There: Peter Sellers worst. Another waste of time with no redeeming features. I loathe this movie. Peter Sellers could either be very good, or awful. Unfortunately, this is in the latter category. I am unable to think of a lead actor who could improve this dross.

The Hulk: A waste of good CGI, and 25 minutes on a transatlantic flight. I watched Singing in the Rain instead.

The Fantastic Four: A waste of good CGI.

Adventures of Baron Munchausen: It just stinks, alright? Mrs C fell asleep during this. In the cinema. And she started snoring. Yup, it was that good.

View to a Kill: The worst of Roger Moores Bond movies, and therefore the worst ever Bond movie. Grace Jones: Why?

Wild Wild West: Will Smith normally makes me laugh, or does a good action movie, or both. This is neither.

Starship Troopers 2: Hero Of The Federation: The first movie was a great lets kill the nasty aliens movie. Even if it was a bit crap, you could laugh at it. This sequel takes all the worst bits and none of the good bits, and then destroys them completely. Another movie I failed to watch all of.

The Song Remains the Same: Love the music, hate the pretentious twaddle on the screen. Sorry Led Zep, this leaves me cold. Ive fallen asleep during this, twice. There isnt going to be a third time.

There is a whole bunch of other stuff that really deserves to be put out of its misery, but I havent seen it. The chances are that I havent watched it because a) a lot of other people thinks its not very good, or b) its got either Hugh Grant or Owen Wilson in it. God help us if Hollywood gets the two of them together. As I havent watched it, I cant include it in my list.

The same rule applies to anything Eddie Murphy has done since Beverley Hills Cop, or the Pink Panther remake with Steve Martin (see the comments against Hitchhikers Guide above). I havent included Waterworld because I quite like it.

Things like Police Academy (parts 2-6) arent included in this list, not because theyre good, but because they dont pretend to be anything other than what they are 90 minutes or so of mindless entertainment. Looking through the above list has made me realise what all the featured movies have in common. They have all tried to be something better than they really are, have failed miserably, and as a result are hugely disappointing.
