Ms. randall and I have just returned from one of our most thrilling nights of theater ever, courtesy of that discerning movie fan and inveterate fwiffer, demonic.

This lad is part of the all-male Shakespeare's Globe company now performing RICHARD III and TWELFTH NIGHT in repertory on Broadway, to universally gushing reviews. Our boy understudies nearly fifteen roles among the two plays, including Olivia in TWELFTH NIGHT (remember, all-male cast, as in Shakespeare's day; the set design, costumes and musical accompaniment are also as closely replicated as possible).

Tonight, not only did Ms. randall and I exult in the group's spectacular TWELFTH NIGHT from a box seat, we also did something even better: we got to meet demonic in person. He joined us for a pre-show nosh -- as usual when I meet a fwiffer, I don't think our conversation even touched on fwfr -- and caught up with us after, even took us on a quick backstage tour of the beautiful Belasco Theatre (home to John Barrymore's final appearance and a favorite haunt of Houdini, who had built enough space underneath the stage floor to hold two elephants), all this despite being a tad under the weather. What a charming, friendly, knowledgable man. We're so glad we know him.

I pressed my Playbill onto a reluctant demonic and insisted he sign it. His inscription was "keep on fwiffing." We would have never enjoyed this evening if it hadn't been for benj and fwfr, so thank you too. Now, all pleasantries aside, I have instructed demonic to get ultra-famous VERY FAST so I can sell this thing on eBay for a fortune!

demonic's proud mum is visiting her Broadway baby today, and right about now they are sitting in a theater watching the incendiary production of THE GLASS MENAGERIE. Thanx, demonic -- it was a night to remember -- and for goodness's sake, keep on fwiffing yourself!

That's very kind of you Randall, thanks for the summary of a lovely mini-confourence, so brilliant to meet you and Mrs Randall after all these years.

P.S. Is that theatre the one Houdini toured with his 'Grand Magical Revue'? (I read your recommendation of Hiding The Elephant last year and your comment about the storage space under the stage put me in mind of this)

I'll have to check on that, but I put my foot in my mouth as we made the first backstage turn and told demonic, "It always amazes me how small the backstage area is in these grand theaters." He is far too fine a person to laugh in one's face, but I believe he realized I would be aware enough to laugh at myself upon seeing The Elephant Space: you can't imagine a larger backstage area! Such is the genius of Houdini.

Agreed on Demonic- damn good chap.

And I just want to say I knew him before he sold out and went all big time on Broadway
