Fr'instance "Stalingrad" is performing marvels at the Russian Box Office on 1500 Cinemas but might struggle elsewhere. "The Face Reader", a historical tale of a man that, er, reads faces is ripping up the Box Office in S Korea. Miyazaki's "The Wind Rises" is an unsurprising sensation in Japan and will probably perform well as the world knows Ghibli! The sleeper from this country is probably "Like Father, Like Son" - a tale of Babies swapped at Birth.
You never know what Worldwide audiences will take to from the Hollywood pool - "Despicable Me 2" isn't an obvious Smasheroo but it's raking it in around the world taking 59% of its $885m overseas.
Some movies are rescued by the overseas market." A Good Day to Die Hard" did exactly that at the US Box Office but ( Yippee-Ka-Ay ) did an extra $237m ( 0f $303m ) overseas. Even a tearaway like "Iron Man 3" did 67% of its take outside of the US.
Anyway, its all quite addictive to look at the statistics to try and get an insight into what makes Piotr or Lee or Nyota say " Do you fancy a trip to see .............."
