I submitted a review and it came back to me with an "I don't understand" reason. Now dont get me wrong. I am not here to complain or stir up the pot. But I sometimes wonder if the MERPS can grasp our concepts. ITs such a n easy review and if you saw the movie you would understand what I meant. ITs a popular Movie too. The review could stand along and you would probably know what movie it was for, if you actually saw the movie. I bet everyone here as at least seen the movie once. Ill give the review and see if you can name the movie. If noone can actually guess right then it will be my understanding that this review is not understandable and I will retract the review. I wont even bother to give a reason. I shouldnt have to for this review. the review is:

"Memories taken at Liberty"

this has 2 meanings...

but I mean it. If at least 1 person cant think of the movie, I will retract it. I need an understanding. If I actually have to explainn it.....then I didnt do my job. But if it's because the Merp didnt actually see the movie....then I understand.

I'm with you on this, once a review is accepted by the MERPS it's there until it either becomes generic due to sequels or if somebody Nastys it.

I'd never let it become a Smithee.

But by the same token it didn't bother me that Smithee was in the rankings as I knew it didn't count. So i just ignore all the reviews uner the Smithee name.

THANK YOU. Now I understand. Why would I want to disown a review, though?
Some disown a review as they're somewhat embarrassed about it. Perhaps they wrote one containing a dirty joke that's funny, but they no longer want to be associated with it as others might think they're a FILTHY PERVERT! Or they might disown one because they only want to have one review per movie; they think of a better review for a movie so disown the original. So, in general, if someone has a reveiw that they don't want and they think doesn't benefit the site, they delete it. If they don't want it but think it still ought to be on the site then they can disown it.

It is of course Smitheed. Just to show you that I Didnt care about the review. I just wanted to grasp the concept and to see if other could grasp the concept. I also disowned it because it now has negativeness towards it. It has bad Karma. Not many people will vote for it now bacause it was the center of the arguement. Or maybe people will vote for it. Just to show you that the review wasnt the thing I was fighting for...It was the concept and the idea of it.

What I find concerning is that numerous real reviewers are not allowed in the ranking by average votes, while Smithee is allowed in all three rankings. I would not mind if we did not have those rankings, but since we do they should be meaningful.

I have voted for loads too, but none of them post-Smitheeing. Some people even Smithee reviews because they have too many votes.

We are most certainly not all sort of Smithee.

By the way, 'Dont understand' never means that the MERP doesnt get the joke/pun - it means they dont get the link between the review and the movie.

I still think that my "Thatcher: Tory leader, chick" suggests otherwise, but I agree that this is what is supposed to be the case.

I never explain a pun in my 100 character explanation, I have always assumed that there is no point doing so, reviews don't get approved because the MERP gets the pun

Yep, this is my practice too, and I think the only valid one.

Lets start a different discussion, bloody hell Smithee has 1000+ reviews, and is 57th in the most review rankings!

That must be hard to swallow for some and I might be joining the ranks of people who find it concerning.

What is really worrying I have voted for a massive 87 of those, but have never knowingly voted for a Smithee review!

Weird.

I voted for a heap of Smithee reviews when I first discovered fwfr. At that time I thought it was a real fwiffer who was using the name because it's such a well-known movie 'joke'

Sorry, I don't understand. Smithee is not a fwiffer??? Who is he/she???

It's a pseudonym for directors who are unhappy with their product.Read this.

Yes, I know who Alan Smithee is in real life (if that makes any sense!); but who is Alan Smithee the fwiffer??? What do you mean when you say you voted for a load of his reviews thinking it was a "real fwiffer"... sorry, I'm still confused....

Yes, I stepped in it once.

I am a sex object. When I say "sex", women object.

Bruce's grandpa has memories of going to American and talks about the green lady that welcomed him there.

I loved that movie.
