Okay, firstly major apologies for the complete lack of the site since Saturday morning.
So what happened? The whole server just went down Saturday morning and was completely inaccessible in any way shape or form. I've been chasing up my hosting company since then but their complete lack of any technical support outside of weekdays meant I was buggered the minute this happened on a weekend. The hosting company seems to have at last sorted the server, not that they've told me as such, so it's possible it just revived itself especially since it appears to have started working outside their office hours.
Will this happen again? Quite possibly. As many of you know, this server is not in a good way as it is- slowdowns and complete timeouts plague it on a daily basis, and this latest incident makes me think this server could well be on it's way out.
What to do? I'm now seriously looking to move the site asap. I have another server prepped that will have much better support, but I'm still testing to make sure it won't be a step backwards in terms of reliability due to the demands of this site. No idea yet when this will be but I'm thinking days rather than weeks away. I'll let you all know when I know better myself.
Final thing... to the best of my knowledge the site is now back as it was and you can happily use it as before, but please let me know asap if you spot any problems.

Nope- she didn't have time this year  I'd make something myself but I'm not sure beans on toast in the shape of a 9 would have the same effect. |

I've no problem posing on toast for you and i can even make a nine....though I'm not sure the others would be very happy. |

See, now, this is one good kick up the you-know-what to help you dig yourself out of this poor server and move over to a more reliable one. Maybe an Israeli one - they at least have technical support on Sundays!

It is always something. The internet is like a house of cards. You may recall that I lost a month of my life last summer when the server my sites were on had a security breach of some sort and pages were rewritten to include a malicious javascript. It was exhausting, until finally I persuaded the host to move my account to a different server. Thing were going well until today and now there seems to be some kind of problem as it takes forever for pages to load. I don't expect perfection, though (no such thing as a perfect host)...but that month last summer is time I'll never get back. |
