Leading ladies
In "Secretary" Maggie Gyllenhaal's masochistic tendencies find an ideal outlet with her new boss. Spoiler for "To Die For" (here, only obliquely in the review) - Nicole Kidman's weathergirl has her husband murdered and ends up drowned in a frozen lake. In "The Piano" Holly Hunter's Ada wins back her beloved piano key by key from Harvey Keitel who takes payment in piano lessons and sexual favours. In "Late Spring" Setsuko Hara plays Noriko, unwilling to leave her widowed father and start her own life as a wife. |

Play ball!
Stickball, anyone?
Lineup notes:
The video game in The Last Starfighter was created by the alien Centauri. In Bull Durham, Crash Davis teaches a cocky pitcher the fundamentals of baseball. Remember Reggie Jackson's cameo in The Naked Gun?

Lemmy in for #820.
Ye olde link.
I am late this round.
Frau Farbissinia: Herr Doktor, I'm late. Dr. Evil: No, you got here right on time. Frau Farbissinia: No, I mean "I'm late".
It's Never to Late to Mend is a typical Tod Slaughter meller in which he plays a sadistic prison warden.
Ozu's Late Autumn came four years after his Early Spring.
Robert Benton wrote and directed The Late Show. |

V&V -- but somehow this link took me to my own reviews. Fix it up, and I'll revisit, OK? |

Welcome back Pizza and Zeike. And same as lemmy - I find clicking on usernames is a more straightforward way of getting to the right page now. (Love that we both happened to Ozu this round Lem)
A fine 5/5 for Larry.
