I'm looking for movie settings that are ideal --

Like the Emerald City or the Blue Lagoon. Places that are beautiful, wonderful destinations.

Any suggestions?

Post here, my movie-minded pals.

Thanks in advance.

"House of Flying Daggers" - almost any location.

"Zulu" - Once spent a weekend walking in and around the area where it was shot.

"Mediteraneo" - Kastellorizo Island (or indeed any of the smaller Greek islands)

"Jean De Florette" - Provence

"Walkabout" and "Picnic At Hanging Rock" - The Outback

Almost any John Ford film - Monument Valley

"The Shining" / "Blade Runner" - New Hampshire in the Fall

still thinking

I've always been struck by the beauty of the shots of Corleone when Michael was hiding in Sicily in "The Godfather." Websites tell me they used the villages of Savoca and Forza d'Agro, because the real Corleone was already too developed.

Camelot
Glocca Morra (Finian's Rainbow)

maybe she meant the Emerald Forest?

EM?

Emerald City. They can be fantasy places -- like the chocolate room in Willie Wonka.

But, beautiful landscapes, etc. are great, too.

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone!!!

For the masochistic types that pit from "Silence of the lambs", as long as you can have a recording of "Put the lotion in the basket" running day and night.

How about Capri, as in Il Postino?

or

Formentera
, Balearic Islands, as in Luca y el sexo

The village in Cinema Paradiso

The vilage in Life Is Beautiful, in tuscany called Aretzo,

in fact all of Tuscany in A Room with a View

The forest in Pan's Labrynth, for the adventurous types.

Ireland (acting as Scotland in Braveheart, acting as England in Excalibur, acting as the future inZardoz and Reign of fire)

New Zealand in LOTR and King Kong

Bond movies are famous for showing us settings that are absolutely amazing. In Casino Royale, even though they said he was in Montenegro, large amounts of the exterior scenes were shot in the Czech Republic. Other beautiful exteriors were taken in the Bahamas.
And while Venice isn't really as lovely as they make it look, other scenes were shot near Lake Como in Italy.

Hi Em

How's about:
Bali Hai
Provence
Atlantis

Cue violins

Has to be a place that people could go -- so Atlantis won't work. Not sure what the other two movies are. I'm looking for movie suggestions that have scenes in them that are ideal travel locations.

Like in Out of Africa, etc. That sort of thing.

EM :)

Oh, right. [people go to Emerald City?]

Well, Bali Hai is the island on which South Pacific is set; it's got its own song

Provence is setting for A Good Year

Waikiki [Waikiki Melody; Waikiki Wedding]

Mogambo

Any good?
