Yeah, you're right. The line is repeated.

But Bowman appears all over the place in that film, including on a tv screen his erstwhile wife is watching, so the line is not literal (it was not meant to be in either the book or the script).

Also, the monoliths are channels (they work as both literal and metaphorical gateways); they cause Jupiter to transform into a mini-star, but they don't ferry stars to and fro.

But his review doesn't specify the characteristics of carrying. "Monoliths carry stars, fetus." The word "carry" is nonspecific standing alone. It can mean to serve as a means for the conveyance of or transmit, to extend or continue in space, time, or degree or to bear or be able to bear the weight, pressure, or responsibility. The definition doesn't say it has to be a literal physical action. Therefore, by your explanation, the monolith might not literally ferry a star to and fro, but it can be responsible for the transformation into a star. I happened to catch this film (I can't speak to the book, and it isn't relevant to the film review) a couple weeks ago, late at night, and I don't recall it being quite clear enough in regards to the monolith or to Bowman's presence to conclude either has a substantive existence. In the time continuum, Bowman seemed to me to be present in all states of being, be it an infant, a fetus, a man, a ghost, an alien or the hand of God. I don't recall any conclusions being drawn, period, though I could be wrong. In any case, at least to my viewpoint, the review is valid.

demonic's review of Bugsy Malone is priceless: Smallfellas.

Go on back and vote for it!!!

I'll go further: the line does not appear in the movie version of 2001 -- only in the novel. It's only spoken in 2010.

Oh yeah: V&V
