was the film good?

Fair. I'm quite easily please by Bollywood films - it is roughly in the middle of the ones that get mainstream releases here. There have been quite a few of these romantic ensemble pieces lately, so it isn't too original. Except that it doesn't have an intermission, or dancing. The only singing is a (presumably famous) trio turning up in the street every so often. Quite a few of the characters are quite endearing.

Sorry Sal, "beta" means son and "beti" means daughter. Beta is used as "dear" only with much younger people. So beta half doesn't make sense.

I watched Life in a Metro last night and an older woman addresses a younger woman (Shilpa Shetty) as beta. I am sure you are still basically right, but Hindi is presumably like Nepali in that masculine forms often become gender-neutral in everyday speech.

I guess it is more like Kid in English, s'posed to be used for children or males (when addressed by elders), but also sometimes applied to grown-up females. btw, was the film good?

Back from another camp.
I'm too late to catch all the original entries but have voted for the entrants.

Sledge, your "Vulcan Eyes Rubber" is pure genius! I get the pun but judging from the votes, few others do.

Thanks much, I think that helped it along!

I'm always happy for any votes, but I thought Mohawks on the Hudson might kick up a few more...

pun on Moscow on the Hudson.

Anyhoo, V&V

Fresh from MERP approval, here's my five.

Hints:
Shrek the Third: For those who don't know the basic plot, Fiona's dad, King Harold (the Frog) dies, making Shrek the king. Shrek hates royal life and just wants to return to the swamp, so he must convince young Arthur to take the throne.

The Hand: A dismembered hand kills people.
